I bought Bernat handicrafter holiday cotton. It's worsted weight, white with red & green flecks. I bought the cotton to complement glass candlesticks with holly leaves painted on them.

I like to just find patterns for snowflakes and then put them together for runners or scarves or even sweaters. You've already got some good websites recommended. Just give yourself permission to improvise with the patterns you find or just make up your own.
I really think some snowflake like peices put together would be beautiful.

I always check Crochet Pattern Central first. It's my favorite pattern site. The CPC link is for table runners.
If you don't find what you have envisioned you could do a solid runner or squares and then attach holly leaves or poinsettas.
